Visit an Authentic Tokugawa Castle

For an entrance fee of 500 yen, which equals a little over $4 in American money, you can visit Nagoya Castle. Formerly a historic Tokugawa castle, the original building was built in 1518. The edifice eventually required extensive repairs. The Shogun ruler Tokugawa Ieyasu issued an order to build a new castle. However, most of the castle was ruined during the second World War (WWII). The core of the castle was rebuilt in 1959.

Visit Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens

At Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens, you can visit an immensely popular zoo and a large park that includes amusement rides. You can also view the 134-meter high Higashiyama Sky Tower. Do not miss the zoo, especially if you visit with your kids. Your family will enjoy viewing the penguins, koalas and giraffes. At the Botanical Gardens, view the Gassho House and greenhouses that are 70 years old.

Make it a Point to Visit Vivarium

If you love aquariums, do not miss Vivarium (Shizen-dobutuen) filled with amphibians and reptiles.  Enjoy viewing crocodiles, newts and salamanders. The aquarium is also the home of nocturnal animals. If your kids like lizards, the iguanas are sure to provide them with wholesome entertainment. The hole that leads to the giant tortoise observation booth is another intriguing option your children will appreciate. You are not permitted to take any photographs in the aquarium.
