Agra Warnings and Dangers
Agra is a major city in India that sits along the banks of the River Yamuna. It is an ancient city, but also one where you should be aware of local dangers and try to stay safe.
Thieves
Please be careful when you walk along the long corridor extending from the Taj Mahal electric bus parking area to the security check point at the main entrance. Groups of boys often swam unwary tourists and quickly try to pick their pockets. Be careful as you travel in this area.
Local Sellers
The hawkers around famous monuments are can be incredibly aggressive. They will also try and overcharge you by a large amount. If you must buy from one, make sure that you haggle for a good price. There are also touts in the area, employees who try and attract you to local stores. They get a commission for doing so, but the prices you find won’t be bargains. Again, you’ll have to haggle if you want to buy anything.
The Weather
The best time to visit Agra and surrounding areas of the Golden Triangle, including Delhi and Jaipur, is during the cooler and dry season between November and March. After this, the weather gets incredibly hot and humid. Unfortunately, the cooler season is also the main tourist season, so do plan ahead.
