Algonquin Provincial Park Transportation
The oldest provincial park in Canada, the Algonquin Provincial Park was originally created as a timber reserve. The park has several lakes, marshes, rolling hills and plenty of wildlife to attract visitors from all over. There are only a few ways to access the park for those who want to enjoy the sights.
Traveling by Car
Traveling by car is the easiest and most popular way to make it to Algonquin Park. From Ottawa, you’ll make the trek via Highway 417. Highway 60 runs along the south end of the park. Regardless of which way you travel, you’ll have to go through a gate and pay a fee to take advantage of the parks’ amenities.
Float Away Your Troubles
Canoeing is another means of arriving at the park. There are a series of lakes and rivers that lie along the center of the park. If you don’t have a boat, you can rent one from one of the local outfitters, or visit the Portage Store. Canoes are inexpensive and you can rent by the day or even by the week.
Public Transportation
If you’re into inexpensive travel, the bus is an excellent choice. Twice a week it travels from the Wolf Den Lodge Hostel which is only 15 minutes to the park and then travels along Highway 60 at the south end. If you’re up for a lengthy trip and want to save money, this is the way to go.
Choosing the Right Footwear
The majority of your time spent traveling through the park will be on foot. Choose a pair of shoes that are waterproof and comfortable. You will have to navigate through bogs and marshes, so you can expect to get wet.
