Petronas Twin Towers

The Petronas Twin Towers have become an icon and symbol of Kuala Lumpur. They are now the tallest twin towers in the world, at 451.9 meters. The buildings are 88 stories high, and the sky bridge between the two towers is at Level 41, with a viewing deck on level 86. The Twin Towers are closed on Mondays. Visiting days are Tuesdays to Sundays from 9 am to 9 pm, except from 1 pm to 2:30 pm on Fridays.

Batu Caves

Batu Caves are north of the center of Kuala Lumpur, near the suburb of Gombak. It is a sacred site to Hindus, and when you arrive you’ll see a huge golden statue of Lord Murugan next to a large set of steps. There are many souvenir shops and restaurants at the base of the steps where you can pick up hats if needed and plenty of water for the climb. Once you climb the nearly 300 stairs, you’ll see several shrines in a cave complex which stretches back quite a long way. Some of these are very pretty. On your climb up and at the top, you’ll likely be plagued by monkeys trying to steal your bags to get any food or drink you have, so keep everything tucked in safely.

Merdeka Square

Merdeka Square includes the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, St. Mary’s Anglican Cathedral and the former National History Museum. It was the site of the August 31, 1957 proclamation declaring Malaysia’s independence from Britain. This place sheds insight into the history of Malaysia and the people’s struggle.
