Located in the far northern regions of Pakistan is a mountain valley known as the Hunza. A beautiful location that draws hikers and mountain climbers, there are many things to do when visiting the area.

Nature

Khunjerab Pass is a common area where trekkers cross. You can start hiking there from the village of Hopar, which is only reachable by a narrow stretch of jeepable road that extends from the Kakoram Highway. As you walk, you’ll come across many well-known peaks and cross mammoth glaciers that are well known to the locals.

Batura Passu glacier is the fifth longest glacier in the world. It is a pristine white natural formation of incredible beauty. Near Passu sits the majestic Batura Glacier, which is so large that it nudges the edge of the highway. The glacier is in a constant state of advance and retreat. As recently as 1976, it covered both the road and the bridge that crossed over the river.

Historic Sites

Altit fort is situated in the village of Altit, which itself is about three kilometers from Karimabad. It is built on a sheer rock cliff that falls sharply downward into the Indus river. The fort is a 100 year older than the Baltit Fort, and was at one time inhabited by the ruling family. Baltit fort also exists today and still overlooks nearby Karimabad.
