Mestre is the most heavily populated area of Venice and one of the most popular destinations in Italy. Visitors will find my attractions to see and things to do while visiting the area.

The Natural Surroundings

Parco San Giuliano is a very large urban park located just south of the City Center. To the north is the Liberty Bridge to Venice. The park is often used for recreation and outdoor concerts, and visitors will love the views of the nearby Venice Lagoon. From San Giuliano, visitors can explore the city. Like Venice, Mestre has canals, though only a few of them. The town was built along the River Marzenego, which today gives Mestre a very picturesque look.

Churches

Mestre has a long past and possesses many notable, historic churches. San Girolamo is located in the heart of Mestre and is the oldest church in town. The church underwent several changes throughout its long history, and today contains the beautiful Istria stone. A crucifix in cedar wood is preserved inside the church that has an interesting history among locals.

Visitors will also find San Lorenzo, which was built in 1192. In the past, it was the property the Mestrina Community, an ancient institute governed by the local noble families. The current church, with its neoclassical facade, was erected at the beginning of the 19th century. It still retains its original Romanesque bell tower as the only remaining part of the previous building.
