If you’re traveling in Malaysia, you may be looking for transportation to and around the Cameron Highlands. Here are some tips to keep in mind when looking at Cameron Highlands transportation.

Buses from Kuala Lumpur

Buses to the Cameron Highlands leave Kuala Lumpur from the Puduraya bus terminal. You can find this bus terminal next to the Plaza Rakyat LRT station / Chinatown.nThree different bus lines service Kuala Lumpur, including CS Travel, Unititi Express, and GT Express. The trip takes about three hours. If you’re traveling on the weekend, be sure to get there early to buy tickets because there is often a line and the buses get filled quickly.

Note that it’s common for people to approach you with tickets for sale and tell you that the bus is leaving now. This isn’t usually the case, and they mark up the prices much higher than what you can purchase them at the counter.

Bus – Tanah Rata and Brinchang

There is excellent bus service between Tanah Rata and Brinchang, with departures every hour on the half hour. If you’re going to Brinchang from Tanah Rata, the last bus leaves at 6:30 in the evening. The last bus going from Brinchang to Tanah Rata is at 7.30pm but those buses can be unreliable. You can get a taxi for RM$6 per trip in the same station, and it doesn’t matter if you’re alone or have many people together, it is the same price. Cost of bus service is RM$1.50 per person.

Taxis

When you’re in the Cameron Highlands, you’re unlikely to be able to hail a taxi on the street. The best way to get a cab is to ask the hotel to get you a cab, or carry the number of the cab service from www.cameronhighlands.com on their destination guide page and call for a cab. The Cameron Highlands web page has a listing of the cab service number and fares. This may or may not have an updated listing of the fares. You should be able to find updated cab fares on the website for The Lakehouse hotel at www.lakehouse-cameron.com/taxi.

Cameron Highlands via Shuttle

If you’re looking for great Cameron Highlands transportation, consider hiring a 10 seat minivan tour with Joel Travels. The cost is MYA650 and they take longer, but they provide three stops at great places such as a tea plantation, the Lata Eskander waterfall, and a nice rest stop with plenty of restaurants. There are other shuttle services that offer tours to various places, so check them out.

If you’re looking for more transportation and less tours, consider the shuttles at hotels and guesthouses. The Old Penang Guesthouse operates a shuttle to Cameron Highlands from Penang which proves quicker than the buses, although it does cost more than the buses.
