Along the Ocean

It’s impossible to miss the Marina, since it is the docking point for any ferry coming to Aegina. The Marina is a hub of activity and is stunningly picturesque. It is also full of tantalizing cafes and vendors selling fresh, delicious pistachios. From the Marina, you can rent a scooter or catch buses to take you around the island.

In the town of Aegina, there are two beaches for those who want to swim. Avra Beach is the closest beach to the Port, and close by is the Archeological Site of Kolona. It’s a pleasant beach and suitable for kids, since the water is shallow. There is also a playground opposite the beach. Also nearby is the Panagitsa Church and Panagitsa Beach. Fortunately, after a long day on the coast, there are lots of restaurants and cafes close to both beaches.

Historic Structures

The Tower of Markellos is located close to Saint Nikolaos and is distinguished by its bright red color. It’s a Venetian building that was used as a fortification and protection for the Port. Visitors can also visit the Archeological Museum of Aegina. It was the first natural museum of Greece and was founded in 1829. Today, it is housed in the Archeological Site of Kolona.
