Beaches and Beers in Essaouira

This city is not known for crowded clubs, but you can definitely find a few establishments to enjoy a beer or two. Drinking on the beach is a popular activity for the people here. Not only do get the calming experience of looking out at the water, but the crowds and the service are both usually more relaxed. It’s a good place to strike up a conversation. The Bar at the Beach is popular amongst the locals, and you’ll be in good company if you’re a sports fan and want to catch the soccer game. If you’re hungry, you can also try Mogador, which is a restaurant that’s close to the bar, and also faces the beach. Dress code is casual but they bar may close early (around 8 p.m.)

Bar Hafra is a good place to learn about the local culture without visiting a museum. It’s a beloved place to enjoy a few cocktails because of its regulars, televisions and closing time. France’s occupation of Morocco meant influence on their bars as well, so see this relic that’s been leftover from the colonial period. Lots of locals like to come here to eat fried fish, beans and sauce and maybe get a little loud. While their enthusiastic behavior may make some tourists uncomfortable, they aren’t likely to cause you any trouble. Go if you want to get caught up in the spirit of nightlife in Essaouira.
