Tourist Traps in Gibraltar: Duty Free Goods
If you are planning on traveling to Gibraltar there are a couple of things you should know. The first is that there are several duty-free shops that will allow you to buy things without taxes but there are a few tourist traps you should avoid as you do your shopping.
Main Street
When you are walking along the main street in Gibraltar, there are all kinds of sellers and traders you are going to run into. While the duty-free services are going to be a bit lower cost, these traders are going to be looking to make up the lack of taxes by asking for more money up front and they are going to try and take someone who seems naive for more money if they can. This is one of the most traveled sections of the area and that’s both good and bad for tourists who don’t want to be taken advantage of.
If you are a smoker, then being able to get duty-free cigarettes can seem like a pretty good deal; however in Gibraltar, there is a strict limit to the number of cartons you can get duty-free.
