The Utah County Historical Museum

The Utah County Historical Museum is a surprisingly nice little museum located adjacent to the County Office complex in Vernal. The museum provides glimpses of what life was like in the county in different ages. There are displays of a tack and saddle shop. blacksmith shop, photographic studio, country store, life of the Fremont Indians, life of the Utah Indians and several other exhibits. Staff has gone to great lengths to provide accurate and interesting portrayals of early life, and the volunteers are especially eager to answer any questions.

Tip: There is no admission fee to the museum however donations are gratefully appreciated. The hours from September to May are Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 6 pm, June through August 9 am to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays 10 am to 4 pm all year.

The Utah Field House of Natural History

The Utah Field House of Natural History is an excellent little museum. Inside there is a series of very exhibits explaining the different geological time periods and fossils found in each. You’ll also find good discussion on the local geology in the area, the field of paleontology, and what workers in the field must do to uncover fossils. The garden outside of the museum includes a Triceratops, Stegosaurus, a twenty foot high Tyrannosaurus, and many other animal reproductions generally all to scale. There is also a relatively large bookstore that caters mainly to children.

Tip: Hours are April – October (Monday – Sunday) 9:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. (Memorial Day Weekend – Labor Day Weekend extended hours until 7:00 P.M.), November – March (Monday – Saturday) 9:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Admission is Adults: $7 ($3.50 for Utah seniors) Children: $3.50, Children five and under are free.
