Interlaken Nightlife

On a spit of land called the Bödeli, the Swiss town of Interlaken separates Lakes Thun and Brienz. It serves as year-round base camp for extreme sports enthusiasts and tourists seeking the beauty of the Bernese Oberland Alps.

Pubs, Clubs and Grubs

After a long day of repelling off a 5000ft cliff or a leisurely day lakeside, Interlaken comes to life as the sun begins to set. Two of the most popular are the Metro at Blamers’ Hostel or Funny Farm. Blamers’ has an awesome underground bar and dance club while Funny Farm is more laid back with an outdoor area that includes a raging bonfire. Buddy’s Pub has a small street side patio with the local lager Rugenbrau on tap. The Husi Pub is a nice, centrally located place with good mix between local and tourist. Sport fans will be reward by big screen for live events in a warm atmosphere. Interlaken has one of only three Hooter’s located in Switzerland. The Jamming Corner is a little local’s hangout with great reggae music. It is a combination coffee shop/bar where the local 16 year olds and 50 + year olds hang out together, play chess and cards and solve the global problems.

Casinos

The home of the Casino Kursaal is an historical building in Interlaken dating back to the 19th century. Set in a beautiful garden, it’s nice to stroll around the grounds. It’s very small with only six table games and about one hundred slots. There is a full restaurant that offers a dinner floor show including the playing of the Alpenhorn.

Want a more cultural experience? During the summer months, twice a week at the Tellspiele Theater of Interlaken the Friedrich Schiller play “William Tell” is performed. It’s in German but there is an English synopsis available.
