Most of the shops in Keswick are outdoor shops, selling equipment and clothing for hiking, walking, camping and so on. Some shops are cheaper than others and some sell better quality items, so shop around.

Market Day

Keswick has an excellent little shopping center with a good selection of various shops, and on Saturday there is an open air market held in the square by the Moot Hall. It’s not a huge market, and like all markets there is some cheap junk there, but there are also some good little stalls selling local produce and handicrafts. It’s well worth a visit.

Baked Goods

Not all of the shops are outdoor shops, and there are some good shops in regular buildings. You’ll find sweet shops, bakers, gift shops, craft goods, bookshops and so on.

Bryson’s bakery is famous locally for the quality of its products. There’s a tea room above the bakery serving typical home made snacks & dishes. Bryson’s bakes a great range of freshly made pies, pastries, and cakes, and the sandwich counter will make you almost anything you want.

Olde Friars

Olde Friars is a huge building, about the size of two “normal” Keswick shop units. They sell a vast range of sweets, candy, chocolate, fudge and toffee, and novelty sweets along with pickles, preserves and mustards.

The Necessary Angel

You’ll find lots of shops selling tea, whiskey and wine, jewelry, clothes and art. The Necessary Angel is typical of the type of shops throughout Keswick and the surrounding villages in the Lake District.
