This light rail system operates mostly above the ground. It connects places such as Wearside and Tyneside, and the limits are the coast, the airport, and Sunderland. There is the green line, running from the airport through the centre of the city, all the way to South Hylton. The yellow line takes you from St. James’ Park to the coast, then it loops to the centre of the city and ends up at South Shields via Gateshead and South Tyneside. There are 3 zones, and you can purchase a day ticket to travel in the 3 zones. This ticket will allow you to go on the Shields Ferry and buses, as well.

It is incredibly efficient to travel around the Wearside and Tyneside areas when you take the Metro. It is centrally located and runs on most of the lines around every 12 minutes. The Metro comes more frequently in the centre of the city, which is where the trains travel underground.

The trains are convenient for people who are disabled.  They offer reasonable fares and are a reliable mode of transportation. You can get from the airport to the city centre in about 25 minutes or less. It is excellent for tourists and locals alike.
