Creepy Crawlies

Beware of the insects, reptiles and amphibians in Kerala. You will find all types of creepy crawlies – from frogs, snakes, mosquitoes, millipedes, centipedes and many more. The rain attracts mosquitoes, so don’t forget mosquito repellent.

Elephants

Take care while touching or feeding the elephants without the ‘Paappan‘ – the usual master of the elephant – present. Usually, the elephants won’t harm you, but it can be dangerous to touch them or feed them by yourself.

Terrible Roads

The roads are terrible, which can make for a very rough ride. During the monsoon season, roads become a bumpy, wet mess. If you are driving, please drive very carefully. Drivers on these particular roads are known to be very fast and rash.

Not For The Squeamish

Kerala is probably the only Indian state, where the cow is not sacred. When you pass through villages and small towns, you may see something not allowed in other parts of the country. On the doorstep of the butcher shops, the decapitated heads of the cattle are displayed in a pool of blood to prove that the meat sold there is beef. Look away if you are squeamish.

Varkala Beach

Be careful while walking near the beach in the evening. The night can be quite dark, so you will need a flashlight. You can easily purchase a flashlight at many of the area shops. Don’t walk near the beach at night without a light. You could easily fall down the cliffs.
