Along the Tamiami Trail (Venice, FL)

Venice is a great place to stop along the trail for relaxation and renewal. This is a real Old Florida jewel. It has beautiful homes, shops, local theater and a lovely beach. It is just near enough to Sarasota to take advantage of all that offers, also. Walking is best in the downtown area, just so you don’t miss anything.

Veranda Inn:
In the off-season, clean, comfortable rooms are available for less than $50.00 or if you pick up one of the coupon books for discounted rooms. There is an interior courtyard with a heated landscaped pool. Rooms have French doors opening on the courtyard. It is very surprising because from the road, it doesn’t look like much.

Boardwalk:
Walking along and viewing the ocean without getting sandy is great, and this is way more than great for wheelchair users. I really look forward to this peaceful walkway of a mile or so.

Venice Pier:
This pier is next to Sharkey’s Restaurant. There is a small admission charge. It is a great location. Everything needed is available for purchase or rent.

North and South Jetty Parks:
It’s so relaxing to just sit back and watch the boats going in and out the inlet. Fishing is available, as well as snacks. Watch the sun go down from a beautiful location, and when it’s up, get a tan.

Aerosquadron Restaurant:
Great early-bird dinners with a fabulous view of planes, delicious drinks, fun crowd and a spot the locals love. It is open at dinner only and has lots of variety.
