Ocean City MD

Our 1 week visit to Ocean City MD proved to be quite relaxing. The boardwalk, which starts at 25th Street & runs to the inlet, is great for people watching, shopping or gazing on the ocean. We love to do all three. Our May visit found it just crowded enough to have all the restaurants open but not mobbed; in July & August, the visitors number in the millions (way too crowded for us). Ocean City has all sorts of rental units; we had a timeshare townhouse; there’s also condos, apartments, & rooms.

This is a walkable town; however, it stretches from the inlet until 145th Street or so; certain places we drove to & then we walked. There is a neat municipal bus system; you pay a daily fee of $3 (I think seniors pay less) & receive a bracelet allowing you to ride on any bus in the system. Outlets for shopping are located in West Ocean City along with the road to take when you visit Assateague Island which is where wild ponies roam. Although we didn’t make it to Assateague Island on this trip, we did on a prior trip in February 2012; even though it was cold & windy we saw many of the wild horses up close. We purchased a senior park entrance card at that time for $10 (senior rate I believe) which is good throughout the country & for an entire carload of people. On our last full day, the Convention Center hosted a car show with more than 3,000 cars parked in the parking lot of the hall & also at the inlet. If you love old cars, this isn’t to be missed. The show is called Ocean City Cruisin & we attended on the 3rd weekend in May.
