Date of Trip: June 2008
In June, 2008 my husband & myself joined two other couples for a fun fly fishing adventure in Alaska. We have cruised Alaska before & knew it would be beautiful, but we did not know how much fun we would have fly fishing & flying in a Float Plane !
Our flight took us to Anchorage for a one night stay before we were to be flown on a charter plane to Clarke Lake where we were greeted by the whole Alaska’s Fishing Unlimited Lodge crew. The lodge is rustic with about 7 cabins built for two. There were several others building that we were shown by our personal guide before being taken to our cabin. We visited the entertainment lodge with a pool table, a small kitchen & one TV (with 3 stations & DVD to play).
Next the sauna & hot tub were pointed out. On to the Food Lodge where we met our chef. Next was lunch with the owner, Woody, pilots & guides then off for an afternoon of fishing. I’m sure to see our skills or lack of !!!
This afternoon included our first Float Plane flight & I must say “I loved it!” Back to our home for the next week & the first of many delicious meals. Rise & shine at 5:30 am — a knock on the door & your coffee is delivered by a happy, smiling face. Breakfast at 6 am ! About 7 am my husband & I board our Float Plane with our very own pilot/guide (with over 30 years experience) for our first full day of fishing.
We fished mainly for Rainbow Trout the first few days — with success !!! Our last two days we went for King Salmon — there again success !!! Our lunches each day were sent with us & we are on shore or in our boat.It was a picnic each day that all enjoyed. Dinner was served a 7pm each night — of, course it was hard to tell it was night since it never really got dark. No problem thought sleeping after a hard day of fishing or touring. Yes, we had a choice each day – to fish all day, part of a day or tour by Float Plane. We took advantage of it all.
Wow, what a beautiful, unspoiled part of the world, We saw bears, otters, sea seals, eagles, & a Moose taking a swim. I really enjoyed this week in beautiful Alaska & thank the crew at Alaska’s Fishing Unlimited Lodge for a job well done !
