Belgium enjoys fairly temperate weather throughout the year. Summer temperatures average 54 to 72 degrees, while winter temperatures range from 32 to 43 degrees. Light rains fall throughout the year, and snow is common from November through March. Temperatures rarely fall below freezing, except in the southern regions.

Bruges can be very crowded with visitors from all over the world during the spring, summer, and fall. Annual events occur throughout the year and draw crowds, so check Visit Belgium's calendar before deciding when to visit.

Shops and museums close for official holidays. Also, most museums typically close on Mondays.

When to Save

Airfare tends to be cheaper in the winter, while hotels are cheaper in the summer. Because the European Union does not hold sessions in Brussels during July and August, hotels do not get full and can offer discounted weekend prices. In general, weekends in Brussels are less expensive than the rest of the week.

When to Book

Book airfare in advance to ensure availability, especially for high-season travel. The best time to book hotels is at the last minute.
