When To Go

With more than 90 parks and forests and two very popular casinos, Connecticut has plenty of activities to offer year-round. Some travelers enjoy the cold winters by visiting one of the seven ski areas, while many others come for outdoor activities like fishing during the warm summer. The spring shoulder season offers reduced prices for those willing to chance the unpredictable weather, and fall foliage brings in droves of leaf-peepers.

Weather Information

Weather in Connecticut is less extreme than in other parts of New England, with an average of only nineteen days reaching above 90 degrees and only six falling below zero degrees.

Crowd Information

The state offers many festivals and events throughout the year that may attract crowds. New Haven's sixteen-day International Festival of Art and Ideas in June fills the city with music, poetry, opera, dance, and art events. Also, there tends to be more crowds during fall foliage season.

Closure Information

Many of the amusement parks close after Labor Day and reopen before Memorial Day. During the winter, campgrounds and parks are liable to close due to adverse weather conditions.

Make reservations at least a year in advance for fall foliage season visits from mid-October through mid-November.
