Cyprus is a year-round island destination in the Mediterranean. The most popular time to visit is during the hottest months, from June through August, when many Europeans come to enjoy the sun and beaches. The winter, from mid-November through mid-March, is the least busy time. The spring and fall have pleasant weather and are good times for sightseeing, wine tasting, village festivals, and outdoor activities. People who come for these activities, often American or Canadian visitors, will enjoy fewer crowds and lower prices.

Cyprus has warm and sunny weather year-round without extreme hot or cold. Summer temperatures can reach 90 degrees, but cool Mediterranean breezes temper the heat. Winters are mild with some rain and snow in the Troodos Mountains. Spring and autumn are quite warm and pleasant.

Crowd Information

Cyprus sees more crowds June through August. Many major festivals, including the Limassol Wine Festival in late August and early September and Pafos Aphrodite Opera festival in early September, also attract tourists.

Closure Information

Hotels, shops, and other venues remain open year-round. Some establishments in non-tourist areas close down on holidays.

When to Save

The most expensive time to go is June through August. Except for the Christmas and Easter holidays, the cheapest time is November through March, when airfares are lower and most hotels offer discounts up to 50 percent.

When to Book

Always book in advance, especially for travel during the high season. For travel during November through March, book airfare at least three to four weeks in advance and hotel and car two to three weeks in advance to ensure availability. For travel June through September, book at least three months in advance for air, hotel, and car. For travel during the shoulder months of April, May, and October, book at least two months in advance to secure the best airfares.
