When To Go

Pennsylvania is a four-season destination. However, like many destinations, summer peaks with families on vacation. Fall comes in as a close second with leaf-peepers arriving to observe the changing foliage, and is arguably the most pleasant time. Winter weather can be harsh, but creates an ideal setting for skiers.

high season: June to early-November
low season: December to early-March
shoulder season: mid-November to early-December, mid-March to May

Although December through March are generally classified as low and shoulder seasons, they are considered high season in ski areas.

Pennsylvania has a temperate climate with four distinct seasons. Rain can fall year-round. Winters are typically chilly with snowfall, while the summers are hot and sometimes humid. Spring and fall are mild and cool, with a higher potential for rain.

Venues in certain areas of the state may scale back hours or may even close during the winter low season, but reopen in the early spring.

When to Save

Prices are the least expensive in the winter, but rise during the summer and stay high throughout the fall. Every January, the state celebrates "Cabin Fever month In Pennsylvania," which offers buy one, get one free night hotel deals.

When to Book

Airfare varies constantly, and sometimes the best deals are available at the last minute. However, as a general rule, book at least 21 days in advance to ensure a good rate and choice of flights. As for hotels, it's always best to book in advance to ensure choice of rooms, especially during the summer.
