If we could sum up the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Washington DC in one word it would be: fun. Your mood will lift as soon as you step into this whimsically decorated hotel, thanks to its fun design and charming, welcoming staff. Located just steps from a Metro station and only a few blocks from iconic DC sites such as the National Mall, White House, and Washington Monument, the Kimpton Hotel Monaco is the perfect base for a DC vacation.
The Location
Step out of the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station, and your eyes will be drawn to a stunning white marble building. Built in 1842 by famous architects including Robert Mills (the designer of the Washington Monument), this historic building originally housed the city’s General Post Office.
Today, the Kimpton Hotel Monaco has a central location. Nearby Metro stations provide easy access to almost any subway line that you could need. The Capitol, Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, and other famous monuments are all an easy walk away. The hotel is directly across the street from the Capital One Arena (home to the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals), making it a great choice if you’re in town for a game.
Amenities
With so much in the area to explore, how will you pack it all in if you have limited time? Borrow one of the hotel’s free cruiser bikes to help you get around faster.
If, after all that exploring, you need a pick-me-up, all rooms feature Nespresso or Keuring coffee and tea makers—or, venture down to the lobby in the morning for the hotel’s complimentary coffee and tea service.
To unwind at night, there’s also a nightly hosted evening wine reception in the lobby, where you can mingle with other guests and enjoy a free happy hour.
Need to stretch it out after a long day walking around DC? Free Gaiam yoga mats are provided in every room. Or, head down to the well-equipped fitness center which is open 24 hours (and offers complimentary headphones in case you forgot yours.)
Pro tip: For even more amenities, make sure you sign up for the free Kimpton Loyalty program. Members receive free high-speed internet access, a $10 Raid the Bar Credit, and daily newspaper delivery.
The Rooms
This boutique hotel has 139 recently renovated guestrooms and suites. All of the rooms feel spacious, thanks to the large windows and 20-foot vaulted ceilings. Relaxation is all but guaranteed at the Kimpton Monaco DC when you slip on one of the provided animal print robes and sink into the beds outfitted with luxuriously soft Frette linens.
The spacious suites are worth the splurge, featuring a minimum of 525 square feet. Most suites have a separate living area and bedroom, which is perfect if you’re working remotely during your trip. Certain suites can be converted into a two-bedroom setup that’s ideal for families traveling together.
Dining
Dirty Habit, the hotel’s sole restaurant, is an all-day destination for locals and guests alike. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner (plus brunch on Sundays), Dirty Habit is known for its beautiful outdoor patio and fun scene. For the best deals, stop by the restaurant’s happy hour (available Monday through Friday from 4 pm-7 pm).
