ANA, Japan’s largest airline, recently rolled out its long-anticipated new fleet of Star Wars-inspired planes. With the heroic theme music blasting, a 787-9 Dreamliner imprinted R2-D2 led the way out of the hangar, followed by two more planes, one decorated with BB-8 (a new droid from the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and the other featuring both adorable droids.
There to greet them at the revealing were some Stormtroopers, C-3PO, and R2-D2 himself.
“At ANA, we’re always looking for ways to improve our flying experience for our passengers, and what better way to start your trip to Asia than on a one-of-a-kind Star Wars plane?” said Senior Vice President Hideki Kunugi.

The R2-D2 Dreamliner is set to make its first flight on October 18 between Tokyo and Vancouver. It will then continue to fly internationally between Japan and other cities. The other two planes decorated will follow the Dreamliner soon after, flying routes between Japan and North America.
As part of a five-year promotional agreement between ANA and The Walt Disney Company, this is the first time any commercial aircraft has been decked out in Star Wars livery. But it’s not just the outside of the planes that are enticing fans; the cabins also feature themed headrests, cups, and napkins. And if that’s not enough, all the planes will have all six installments of the movies available to watch. This is the first time that any Star Wars movie ever has been available on any airline’s in-flight entertainment system.
