Monica Amestoy, 18, and her family are suing United Airlines, alleging that flight attendants failed to stop a masturbating flyer on her flight from New York to Los Angeles, reports CBSLA.com. Amestoy (who was 17 at the time of the incident), says that a man sitting across the aisle from her was touching himself inappropriately (and, in case you needed another reason not to use the airline-provided blankets on your next flight, using a blanket to try and hide what he was doing). Amestoy claims that she alerted flight attendants to the man’s actions twice, but that they told her there was nothing they could do about it, as there were no other available seats in coach.
Amestoy told CBSLA.com, “I was terrified and disgusted throughout the flight and kept hoping that the man would stop. But he did not. Except for brief moments when the flight attendant was standing next to him in the immediate vicinity.”
When Amestoy landed, she reported the incident to her father, who then called law enforcement, and the man later pled guilty and was convicted.
United Airlines released a statement saying, “The comfort and security of our customers is our top priority, and we will closely review this complaint when we receive it.”
Considering that flyers have been kicked off of planes for: complaining, speaking Russian, dressing inappropriately, and being noisy, we’re shocked that the self-loving man wasn’t booted from the plane, or arrested upon landing. What do you think the flight attendants should have done in this situation? Tell us in the comments.
