Weekly Weird: Puppy on the Runway, Mean Pilots, More

Things may have been touchy in the skies this week, but on the ground at least we got a cute puppy story!

Two Flybe pilots were fired after an in-flight fight. The Daily Mail reports that Captain Stephen Bird and First Officer Stephen Akers got in a massive argument after encountering some turbulence. Akers allegedly told Bird to fly around a storm, but Bird opted to fly through it, since the flight was already running late. Akers reportedly called Bird a “control freak” and told him to “f*** off,” and Bird allegedly called Akers his “b****.”

Another week, another TSA drug trafficking ring is uncovered. CBS News reports that two current and two former TSA employees were arrested on federal drug trafficking and bribery charges. The LAX screeners allegedly took bribes in exchange for letting drug mules pass through screenings undetected. The screeners were busted after a sting in which they let undercover informants through security with almost four kilograms of meth and over 20 kilograms of cocaine. Maybe the real reason the TSA is so focused on patting down children is to distract from their drug smugglers passing through?

Now let’s end on a happier note. NBC New York reports that a 30-pound Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy (that is one giant puppy!) escaped while being loaded into a cage on a Delta flight at LaGuardia. While she ran around the runway, the tarmac had to be shut down and flights were delayed until workers finally caught her.
