Travelers looking to escape to the Caribbean this winter will have a few more options to choose from. AirTran will begin service to Nassau, Bahamas, on December 17 and Montego Bay, Jamaica, on February 11. Nonstop service will be available from Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and Orlando, with connecting options from each of those airports.
Prices for the new routes have not yet been announced.
Low-cost carriers have built up quite a presence in the Caribbean. JetBlue and Spirit, in particular, serve numerous destinations (Montego Bay and Nassau included). AirTran’s entry into those markets should keep prices competitive for consumers, so long as we don’t end up with a case of too much service.
