Adult-Friendly Vacations Under $1,000

I received quite a few requests to feature adult-friendly vacations in response to last week’s column about kid-friendly places, so this week we’re going to leave the little ones at home and see where we can go sans children. Granted there are resorts that only allow adults, but let’s focus more on destinations best enjoyed without kids.

It’s virtually impossible to discuss vacations geared towards adults without first mentioning the allure of gambling destinations like Las Vegas. The desert city is almost synonymous with adult entertainment. From the bright neon lights that never stop twinkling to the sound of rattling coins promising big money, Vegas was created with the older set in mind. Though you may encounter kids while you’re there, you can stay and play where children are less likely to be found. The Bellagio and the Wynn offer a more refined experience, skipping the theme-park-style attractions and roller coasters.

It’s no secret that Las Vegas has recently been hurting in the tourism department, which translates into savings for those wishing to visit. Right now, Funjet Vacations is offering a round-trip flight and a three-night stay starting at $219 per person (without taxes and fees). Prices vary by departure city and hotel. You’ll pay $519 to stay at the Wynn and fly round-trip from Chicago. These prices are based on availability and have certain restrictions, so they might not last long.

Southwest Vacations is making it easy for friends to travel to Sin City together: Every second person flies free when you book a flight to Vegas. Plus, you can get a fourth night free at a range of hotels, including Bellagio, when you stay three nights. This promotion breaks down to air-and-hotel packages starting at $33 per person per night (without taxes and fees). You must book by August 10, and travel between August 17 and January 7.

Another tried-and-true trick to taking a kids-free vacation is by skipping the mainstream places and visiting a more exotic locale. For instance, instead of going to the Bahamas or Bermuda, go off the beaten path to somewhere like Peru. Go-today.com is offering vacation packages to Lima starting at $809 per person (without taxes and fees). The deal includes four nights’ lodging, round-trip airfare from Miami (other departure cities are available for a higher cost), airport transfers, daily breakfast, hotel taxes, and airline surcharges. You must book by August 13, and travel by December 8. Certain restrictions apply.
