Explore country culture in Pocatello, Idaho

Idaho is best known for its agriculture, but the Gem State has a ton of fun to offer you if you know where to look. Pocatello is a great spot for exploring the culture, history, and magic of Idaho.

The Bannock County Bluegrass Festival, which is held every August, is three days of music, workshops, food, and entertainment. Internationally renowned bluegrass bands and local merchants share the Pocatello Fairgrounds during this celebration of American roots music. Admission for the entire weekend is only $30, and includes the Saturday night Barn Dance.

Idaho has a wealth of natural hot springs, and the Lava Hot Springs Inn (35 miles from Pocatello), is a welcome retreat at the end of the day. Outdoor mineral pools and a full buffet breakfast are yours for $79 per night.

There’s no shortage of fine dining in Pocatello. The Senang Wine Bar is one of the best. Chef Daniel Hallman prepares simple ingredients elegantly, and sources his food from ecologically responsible growers whenever possible. Try the Grilled Tenderloin with Yukon Gold hash for a quintessentially Idahoan experience, or sample from the eclectic tapas menu.

If you’re feeling lucky, take a drive to the Fort Hall Casino. It’s part of the Fort Hall Indian Reservation, which is home to 3,500 members of the Shoshone and Bannock tribes. The casino is open 24 hours a day, so you’ve got plenty of time to win a bundle.
