Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth will live again

[% 9732 | | Cunard %] has announced plans for a new 2,092-passenger ocean liner to debut in 2010. The new ship will be called the Queen Elizabeth after the line’s original vessel of the same name.

The news comes just a few months after the [% 2383087 | | sale %] of the Queen Elizabeth 2 and before the [% 2425286 | | launch %] of the new Queen Victoria. For a cruise line not known for adding new ships every year, Cunard is certainly on a roll, with the QM2 debuting in [% 14482 | | 2004 %], the Queen Victoria coming out this December, and now a new ship for 2010. In contrast, the QE2 entered service in 1967.

No details are currently available about the Queen Elizabeth, other than it will offer the opulent luxury and impeccable service that are Cunard’s hallmarks. The ship will be the second largest ship ever built for the fleet.

And who knows? If the Queen Elizabeth receives the same eager reception as the Queen Victoria, perhaps a fourth Cunard liner may be on the distant horizon.
