Farecast, an airfare price-prediction website, has expanded its coverage to include travel deals. More than 25 cities are represented, including Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York, and travel deals cover airfare for weekend getaways, last-minute sales, week-long vacations, and more.
The site claims it’s different from other deal websites because the listed promotions are more than just straightforward sales: Farecast has taken its prediction tools and applied them toward the latest deals. Thus, the promotions you’ll find on Farecast are based in a greater context, taking historical data, competing providers’ prices, and average airline route rates into account.
A few weeks ago, Associate Editor Jessica Labrencis put [% 2318423 | | Farecast’s predictions to the test %] and found the site had a 50 percent accuracy rate. Farecast’s deal coverage looked promising on first glance, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable using it as a one-stop shop. As with any big purchase, be it travel or otherwise, it pays to compare. Farecast can certainly be a worthwhile resource to add to your preferred travel websites, but you’re still going to have to put in some legwork (checking major providers, preferred airlines, etc.) on your own to really make sure you’re getting the best deal for your money.
