Accra Nightlife – Clubs, Bars & Nightlife Tips

Accra Nightlife

Accra has fun nightlife, which includes bars, casinos, nightclubs, VIP clubs, and a party area on Labadi Beach.

Bars

The Bass Line is a small but nice lounge bar at the Ring Road Central in the north part of the city. It has a small dance floor and nice sofas to sit on. The DJ music is mostly R&B, hip-hop, and Dancehall style. The bar is nice and the drinks are good but expensive. Mixed drinks are around US$3 to $4 and beers are about US$1.25, which is expensive for Ghana. They also serve hamburgers and salads.

On the outskirts of Accra, about fifteen minutes drive from the center of the city is the Tops and Tails Bar. It is on Spitex Road near Standard Chartered. This bar has pool tables and offers both food and drinks. Around midnight on weekends, out come the dancing girls. Dress to impress as this bar has a VIP section.

Other local bars to check out include the California Bar, Aquarius, Champ’s for karaoke, Next Door on the beach, Bywell, and the Irish pub called Ryan’s.

Casinos Bars

The Vienna City nightclub is inside the Kotoka International Airport. It has a bar, roulette tables, and video poker machines. There is an entry fee of about US$2.50.

Nightclubs

Accra is famous throughout Western Africa for its vibrant nightlife, especially its dance clubs. Many of the nightclubs are located around Nkrumah Circle.

Coconut Grove plays music with a Latin flavor on special nights for those who like to dance to salsa music. Many students from Cuba go there. The dancing in outdoors and the dress is casual.

Macumba was a hot club that faded in popularity around 2010. It used to be the place to go to find young women willing to come back to your hotel room for a “gift.” The entry fee used to be about US$20 on weekdays and US$25 on weekends but lowered during 2010 to US$10 on Saturdays because of the lack of customers.

Jokers Nightclub is the most popular nightclub located on Labadi Road, just across from the La General Clinic. Tourists and affluent locals go there because the entry fee is about US$7 and the drinks are expensive by African standards. It has multiple bars, a dance floor, and an outside terrace.

Labadi Beach

This beach turns into an outdoor nightclub in the evenings. The restaurants and bars play a lot of good loud music and there are live bands also.
