Adelaide Things to Do – Attractions & Must See

Adelaide Things to Do

If you think Adelaide is all about beaches and food, you’re only be half right. Here are some of the best attractions and things to do in Adelaide.

Cultural Attractions

The South Australian Museum is like taking a trip back in time. You won’t find a lot of high-tech exhibits, but there are high-quality artifacts on display from ancient Egypt, the Australian Aboriginal cultures, and other Pacific cultures.

For another historic journey, visit the Adelaide Zoo, part of which was constructed in the late 1800s. The zoo hosts a reptile house with the two deadliest land snakes in the world, both indigenous to Australia. Another draw to the zoo are two giant pandas from China, Wang Wang and Funi, that are the main reason many visit the zoo.

Shopping

If you like to relax by shopping, don’t miss Adelaide’s venues for unique gifts and great deals. Hahndorf is the oldest German settlement in Australia, and it features many shops that draw locals and tourists for a taste of Germany in Australia.

Rundle Street is the main shopping area in Adelaide, and you can find not only great shopping deals but also fabulous street entertainment. The western portion of the street is a pedestrian mall with all the major Australian stores and buskers who fill the street during the busy weekends.

Food and Drink

Barbossa Valley is a mecca for those who love wines. Famous labels such as Jacob’s Creek and Penfold are produced here. With numerous winery tours, you will have plenty to fill your time in the valley. Additionally, you can see the Whispering Wall and the world’s largest rocking horse, both located near the Barbossa Valley wineries.

Natural Attractions

For outdoor activities, you should definitely visit Glenelg, the beach resort suburb that has clean, safe white-sand beaches.

Adelaide Botanic Gardens is one of three formal gardens in Adelaide (Mount Lofty Botanic Garden and Mittunga Botanic Garden are the other two) and it is the most accessible of the three. When visiting the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, allow at least two to three hours for the trip to see everything inside the greenhouses and the outdoor gardens.

The Cleland Conservation Park holds an open wildlife park, where visitors, carrying bags of animal food, can wander among kangaroos, emus, and wallabies. This is a rare opportunity to get close to native Australian animals in a natural habitat.
