Air to Atlanta GA

Author: Martha W
Date of Trip: June 2009

Six friends and I traveled to Atlanta, GA from IL via Air Tran. We planned to use public transportation and stay near a Marta (train) stop. We stayed in Buckhead at the Embassy Suites. This was a great location as it was only two blocks to a Marta stop. We purchased a four day Marta Pass from a vending machine at the airport. This was also good for the bus system as well as the trains. It was around $13.00 each for four days. Much more reasonable than paying per ride.

We arrived at the hotel about 10:00 a.m. to drop off our bags. Our rooms were ready and so they allowed us to check in early which was great since most of us were up at 4:30 a.m. to catch a 6:00 a.m. flight that morning. The rooms were adjoining and we had three in each suite. Embassy Suites at this location had recently remodeled and our room were very nice. The bedroom included two double beds and a sink for additional make up space. The living area had a pull out sofa which was extremely comfortable. It had a bar sink and refrigerator also. The bath was very nice.

In addition to the lovely accommodations we were invited to attend a complementary Happy Hour each evening and a full complementary breakfast each morning. By paying for the rooms at the time we reserved it made our stay quite affordable. If we should ever return to Atlanta we would definitely plan to stay at Embassy Suites in Buckhead again.

We spent four days exploring tourist sites in Atlanta. We visited Martin Luther King’s home and the Visitor’s Center, Atlanta Aquarium, World of Coke, CNN, Centennial Park, Botanical Gardens, the Fox Theater tour and a production of Jersey Boys at the Fox, and the High Art Museum. The venues we visited (except for Jersey Boys) were part of the Atlanta City Pass, which is a booklet of tickets allowing entrance to different venues at a considerable savings. This pass can be purchased at the first venue visited. It was $69.00 per booklet.

Breakfast at the hotel was very filling so for lunch we usually had something light. After ordering dinner the first night and receiving large portions we began to share entrees and the restaurants were very accommodating when we asked about sharing. This trip was a girl’s get away. We had a wonderful time and came home with many lasting memories.
