Luggage Theft

There is a real danger of your hand luggage being stolen at the airport. There is a cafe area just inside the revolving door at the EasyJet check in where it’s very easy for criminals to merge with travelers and pick up bags as if they were their own.

Disease

Legionnaire’s disease is caused by the legionella bacterium. Air conditioning systems are breeding grounds for the bacterium (others include moist showers, cooling towers, and humidifiers).

Barcelona has had several outbreaks – lack of official inspection and poor upkeep of air conditioning plants are the main culprits.

Pickpockets and Purse Snatchers

Beware of anyone demanding money from you. Never leave your bag unzipped even the tiniest bit, and definitely say “NO!” when someone tells you to open or check in your bag.

Another good tip is to take out the amount of money you think you require for the day and keep it in a small purse in your pocket so that you don’t have to keep taking the purse containing the rest of your money and passport out every time you wish to purchase something.

Barri Gotic

The Barri Gotic is well worth a visit, but its narrow, maze like streets, make it easy to get lost and the level of poverty in the area means that tourists are often singled out for theft by gangs. Don’t consult your map or make it obvious that you are lost, and just carry on walking if in any doubt.
