Bars
There are plenty of bars around Fountain Square, including the popular Finnegan’s, an Irish bar. The popular Phoenix Bar looks classy and nice inside, and there’s always a good crowd in there in the evenings. The bar also has a big screen for sports viewing. The William Shakespeare is an English pub that’s also affordable, and located close by.
If you want to have the best view of downtown Baku, whether it’s daytime or at night, your best bet is the top of the ISR Plaza. Previously called the City Lights Bar, it has now been renamed to Azza Bar. Not only does this place have a breath-taking view, it also offers you some great sushi, a big variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and live music in the evenings. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and the seats are quite comfortable.
Clubs
There are many nightclubs in Baku. The clubs are designed in a western style, even though the clubs tend to feature local music. The clubs vary in style and size. Capitol Night Club is a lively night spot. It has a diverse crowd and is friendly to people of all backgrounds and orientations. It is located opposite the prom under the Azerbaijan Hotel, next to the Dom Soviet government building, and starts getting good at about 1 A.M.
The Hyatt Disco is fun on Saturday nights. Other discos that are fun include Sherwoods, the Coral, the Tural, and the Blackjack. X-site is a newer disco club in Baku that is also quite successful. The music is good and the atmosphere is really nice. Its location, however, can be the most attractive thing about this disco. Xsite on the Boulevard, right above the Red Room restaurant.
Food
Aroma Cafe opens around midday and doesn’t close until midnight. It’s a two-story café with very good service, an English-speaking staff, and good food. The design is amazing and there are big couches and arm-chairs to recline in. Of course, free Wi-Fi is available. Meanwhile, Moaziz is a restaurant where you can go to eat while listening to folk and pop music. Following dinner, you can stay for a while and dance on stage with other people.
