There’s no timetable for changing or rolling back the hastily enacted ban on liquids and gels in carry-ons, says Kip Hawley, administrator of the Transportation and Safety Administration (TSA). This according to a piece in yesterday’s Washington Post (free registration required), which also quotes Hawley as saying, “The threat is not over … we’re not going to feel a pressure on time.”
Airlines are reporting that the number of checked bags has drastically increased since the measures were put in place on August 10, but thus far there seems to be little effect on ticket sales. TSA officials say they would be “surprised” if the rules changed before the heavily traveled Labor Day weekend, which should be another test of the limits of the system (and travelers’ patience).
