The Parks
In the center of the city lies Jubilee Park, with a fountain that dates back to the Dutch colonization of Indonesia. Next door is the charming local zoo. The Juanda Forest Park has nearly 600 acres and offers a great way to get in touch with nature. Bring the children here to have a picnic and explore the regional caves.
Another popular area is the Sari Ater Hot Spring Resort. Less than half an hour north of the city, the springs are a popular retreat on weekends. You can visit for the day or choose to stay here. Situated in the mountains, the air is cooler than it is in the city. The springs have lots of soaking pools and places to swim including a river. There’s an entrance fee as well as changing rooms and restaurants where you can grab an Indonesian meal.
Kawah Putih
Another popular regional favorite is the volcanic Kawah Putih crater, which means white crater in the local language. The green waters are inviting and warm, and many people recommend that visitors come early before it gets crowded during the day. On the way here, you’ll pass by Ciwidey: This town specializes in growing strawberries and you can pick your own for as a fresh dessert.
Strolling and Shopping
Travelers should not miss the chance to see one of Bandung’s trademarks: The Satay Building is considered the building most representative of the region with classical white-washed walls and many intricate details.
Bandung is also home to one of the most famous museums in the area. The Bandung Geological Museum houses many impressive artifacts including a skull from Java Man and many other fossils that have been found in the area.
