Not the typical white-sand beach-filled Caribbean island, St. Lucia stands out with rainforests and volcanic mountains. The island is best known for the Pitons, two volcanic spires that rise over 700 meters above the sea. In the Pitons’ area, you’ll find natural hot springs, as well as coral reefs housing numerous sea creatures—a great spot for diving and snorkeling.
On the interior of the island, the dense rainforest offers amazing hiking and bird-watching. For a really unique view, try Rainforest Adventure’s zip-line tour through the tree-tops. And then for a real adrenaline rush, try the company’s AdrenaLuna nighttime zip-line tour through the darkness.
Don’t worry, there are still plenty of beaches on the island, including the white-sand Anse des Pitons and the golden Reduit Beach.
Where is it? In the Caribbean, between Martinique and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Fly to Hewanorra International Airport (check prices).
Where to Stay? Stay in one of the eight tree-house Luxe Lodges at the Boucan by Hotel Chocolat, a hotel on a working cocoa estate.
What Else Should I Know? If you’re coming during one of the island’s many fun festivals, book your accommodation early!
Who’s it For? Beach, mountain, and rainforest lovers!
