Delta has joined Virgin America in offering free in-flight Wi-Fi for the holidays (or at least part of them). Delta passengers will be able to access in-flight wireless free of charge for a week, starting Tuesday, November 24. Virgin’s offer goes from November 10 to January 15.
Interestingly, Delta’s wireless promo is sponsored by eBay. Passengers who connect to Delta’s Wi-Fi will initially be directed to eBay’s holiday-themed home page. As Jaunted points out, this is a no-brainer win-win for both Delta and eBay—Delta gets to show off its wireless product (and maybe hook some passengers for down the road) while eBay snares a captive audience that already has Christmas shopping on the brain.
For customers, the benefit is obvious: Thanksgiving travel is tedious, arduous, and stressful. In-flight wireless provides a diversion, and will be appreciated by travelers taking time off from work to visit family.
