Update your status, check out your friends’ photos, and book your next trip? Yes! With its new Ticket Window, Delta is now allowing customers to book flights through Facebook.
I just gave it a try and it’s a fairly easy and straightforward experience, and you can easily share various fares you find mid-search for your flights. However, since there’s no way to compare fares across airlines, this is going to be of limited use to all but Delta loyalists. But I can certainly imagine using it when I have a few minutes to daydream about my next trip, and by being an application in Facebook, Ticket Window catches people when they’ve got a few minutes to spare.
The airline plans to expand its Ticket Window to other sites and even to banner ads. As Boston.com observes, it’s interesting that Delta is leading the pack on this one because, “big airlines like Delta, the world’s largest, have been slower than their discount counterparts in catching the wave of social media.”
Also in the works from Delta are website improvements, better airport kiosks, and an iPhone app.
What do you think? If you already use Facebook, do you anticipate trying this one out? Are there other airlines you’d like to join Delta in offering booking systems on Facebook?
