Brugge Shopping
Brugge is the capital city and the most popular city in the country of Belgium for tourists. The Flemish city is known for its world-class chocolate and obviously the waffles. It is also host to some of the best shopping in Europe. The following are a few shops you must check out if you enjoy shopping while on vacation.
Chocolate Shops
Belgian chocolate is considered by many experts to be the best chocolate in the world. Chocolate makers in the country take very special caution when making their chocolate to adhere to the strict guidelines. All Belgian chocolate must be made with only cocoa butter, not cocoa powder like the chocolate used in some other countries. This gives it a rich creamy texture that many other chocolates don’t have.
There is a myriad of different chocolate shops in Bruges. It is hard to recommend one specifically because they are so great, but many people prefer Leonidas chocolates because of their quality and freshness. They have been making chocolate for over 100 years. While you are shopping for chocolate in Brugge, pick up some of the pralines the country is well known for.
It’s the Place For Lace
One product that Belgium is particularly known for is lace. There many shops all over the city of Bruges that are geared towards selling lace products, especially for decor. The Belgians pride themselves on making products in the country. Some of the lace they sell comes from different parts of the world. Most of the Belgian lace is made in the Flemish province. Commonly, people will buy purses, tablecloths, and other products made from lace.
Souvenirs
Merchants in Brugges understand that their city is a popular spot for tourists and they take advantage of that. There are plenty of spots around the city to get Flemish souvenirs to take home with you or give as gifts to your family.
Do Some Christmas Shopping
Each winter, the Belgians open two Christmas markets in two separate squares in the city. In the market, there are festive decorations and even a man-made ice skating rink. Locals will sell handmade one-of-a-kind gifts. Don’t worry, they sell chocolate here too. For a more intimate experience, check out the smaller Christmas market at Simon Stevinplein.
