As far as name changes go, this one’s fairly minor. As part of a multi-million-dollar refurbishment program, Carnival will add the word “Carnival” to the name of each Fantasy-class ship when it goes into dry dock. The goal is to have a fleetwide naming convention in addition to common shipboard amenities and features.
The eight Fantasy-class ships (Carnival’s oldest and smallest ships) will soon become the Carnival Fantasy, Carnival Ecstasy, Carnival Sensation, Carnival Fascination, Carnival Imagination, Carnival Inspiration, Carnival Paradise, and Carnival Elation.
While in dry dock, the hulls of the ships will be repainted with the new names. The major enhancements include the addition of children’s water parks, new features in the pool areas, and an adults-only deck area. The ships will also receive new stateroom bathrooms, remodeled cabins with flat-screen TVs, atrium lobby bars, coffee bars, mini-golf courses, New York-style delis in the Lido restaurants, and conference facilities. The upgrades will be completed fleetwide by 2009.
