Continental raised its domestic fares by $10 round-trip on Friday, affecting most routes and fare types. The increase is Continental’s second fare hike in two weeks, and the sixth increase since Labor Day weekend.
“This number of increases in such a short time period shows that the legacy airlines are feeling pretty good about having the proper mix of domestic supply and demand as the holiday buying season winds down and do not want fuel prices to derail their recent financial successes,” says FareCompare.com‘s chief executive Rick Seaney in a Reuters report on the fare hike.
If Continental’s increase proves successful, you can expect other airlines to hike their own fares as well.
