Daily Daydream: Devils Tower, Wyoming

Welcome to The Daily Daydream, a tiny taste of travel inspiration to brighten your morning! Look for a new daydream destination each weekday.

At the Devils Tower in Wyoming, you can visit just to admire this natural wonder—or, if you’re an extra-hearty soul, you can attempt to climb all 860 feet of it. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with a flat peak to rest on, and amazing views of the surrounding Black Hills. Be warned, though! Only about half the people who try to climb the Devils Tower actually make it to the top.

Of course, you don’t have to scale rocks to enjoy America’s first National Monument: It’s just as breathtaking to look at from ground level!

Where is it? Wyoming, United States (about 60 miles northeast of Gillette).

Where to stay? At the base of the monument in the Devils Tower Lodge. The Lodge offer offers an introduction to rock climbing in case you decide you want to attempt a summit!

What else should I know? Local Native American tribes consider the Devils Tower sacred, and use the Tower as a central point for ceremonies in June, so there is a voluntary climbing ban during that month.

Who’s it for? Rock climbers, hikers, National Monument fans.
