You may associate the name Casablanca more with a movie than the city, but Morocco’s cosmopolitan hub is worth a visit. The largest and most modern city in the country, Casablanca is considered the cultural and economical capital (although the actual capital is Rabat).
The city is full of striking Art Deco architecture and elaborate mosques just begging to be photographed. There’s also a thriving art scene, dynamic nightlife, and great Moroccan cuisine. The seaside city has beaches on the outskirts, but they’re better for lounging and people-watching than swimming, as the surf is often rough.
Fans of Casablanca the movie may also enjoy visiting Rick’s Cafe, a replica of the fictional bar made famous by Humphrey Bogart in the film. The “real” version opened for business in 2004.
Where Is it? Western Morocco. Fly to Mohammed V airport (check prices).
Where to Stay? At the stylish Art Dec Hotel and Spa Le Doge.
Who’s it For? Casablanca fans!
