What better place to relax on a vacation than beside the world’s largest swimming pool? The San Alfonso del Mar resort in Chile broke into the Guinness Book of World Records in 2006 with its massive pool, which—according to the resort—is equivalent in size to 6,000 (!!) normal swimming pools. One lap should be more than enough exercise for the day!
The pool cost more than a billion dollars to build, and costs millions of dollars just to maintain every year. The cost is worth it, though—where else can you find a pool that is so big that you need to rent a boat just to explore the whole thing?
Don’t worry, environmentalists. The pool is filled with filtered saltwater pumped in and out from the ocean.
Where is it? In Algarrobo, Chile, about 90km from Santiago.
Where should I stay? Rent (or buy!) a two- to five-bedroom apartment at the San Alfonso del Mar Resort. It’s surprisingly cheap: You can rent apartments there from around $170 per night.
Who’s it for? Swimmers, sailors, sun-lovers, and ship’s captains.
