Good news! The Deal Detective is now sleuthing out new bargains every week. Look for a new case each Thursday in SmarterTravel.com’s Deal Alert newsletter.
Dear Deal Detective:
I enjoyed reading your suggestions for visiting the real castle that inspired the one at Disney, but I’m actually looking for deals to Disneyland itself. My husband and I are on a limited budget but we’d still like to take our eight-year-old daughter. We live in Seattle. Any suggestions?
—Jane B.
Dear Jane,
Start by pricing out Alaska Airlines’ new kids-fly-free promotion, which is offered on departures from Seattle, Portland, Spokane, Juneau, and Anchorage to Los Angeles-area airports. I found packages as low as $699 per adult, based on double occupancy, that would allow your daughter to fly and eat free. Included in this package are: four nights for the price of three at the Clarion Hotel Anaheim Resort, free lunches and dinners from the kids’ menu, and two extra days on your Disneyland “Park Hopper Bonus Ticket.” You need to book by March 19 and travel by June 27 to take advantage of the promotion.
United Vacations is offering three different Disney deals that can be used separately or together.
The first is similar to the “Park Hopper” component of Alaska’s promotion: You get two extra days added to your three-, four-, five-, or six-day park ticket, plus one “Magic Morning” day (which entitles you to early admission) when you book a stay at a participating California hotel. Book and travel by April 20 to use this offer.
With the second offer, you get a $150 Disney gift card when you book a package of four nights or longer at either the Paradise Pier Hotel, Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, or Disneyland Hotel. Gift cards are redeemable for merchandise, food, and parking, among other things. Book by April 20.
United Vacations’ third offer nets you up to $200 off per reservation when you book any vacation package totaling $3,600 or more. Use promotion code NEWYEAR at checkout. Book by February 14 and travel by October 31.
Just as I was about to close the book on this one, I discovered that Orbitz is offering similar “Park Hopper” and gift card promotions. And for my readers who’d rather head to Orlando, I think it’s worth noting that Orbitz is also discounting Disney World hotels.
