Dolmus in Turkish means “stuffed” or “crushed” in English. These local mini buses, which are cheap to ride in and available everywhere, are aptly named because occasionally they can be stuffed and you can be crushed by the crowd that climbs on board to ride.

An orange bus will take you to Icmeler. A light blue/green one will take you to Marmaris.

How to Catch a Dolmus Mini Bus

It is easy to catch a Dolmus minibus. If you see one approaching you simply wave to the driver to get the minibus to stop for you. If the driver thinks there is room to cram more people on board, the minibus will stop to pick you up.

How to Pay the Driver

If the minibus is too crowded to be able to reach the driver to pay directly, just pass the money forward and say how many people you are paying for. The money will be passed by the passengers and any change due to you will be passed back. Everyone on the minibus cooperates with this process and the driver will certainly notice if you fail to pay.

The price per person is 3 Turkish Lira (about US$0.83) for adults and 2 Turkish Lira (about US$0.55) for children from six to 12-years old. Children under six-years-old ride with their parents for free.

How to Get the Mini Bus to Stop

Just scream to the driver just before the place you want the driver to stop. These mini buses stop anywhere, so don’t be shy if you see a place where you want to get off. You can always stop for awhile somewhere and then catch another minibus going in the same direction later to continue on your way.
