Dublin Shopping – Shops, Stores, Best Buys & Inside Tips

Dublin Shopping

The city of Dublin, Ireland, is known for many things, including charming architecture, a thriving restaurant scene, and a vibrant culture. Travelers will also find great shopping. Many shops are located in some of the city’s oldest districts, allowing a visitor to combine a visit to a shop while touring a local museum or art gallery. Dublin offers vast range of goods. Local food items and the city’s famous textiles are not to be missed.

Major Shopping Areas

Dublin has several major shopping areas. Grafton Street, located on the south side of the city, is one of the largest shopping areas. This pedestrian only street makes it easy to find lots of trendy items, often at a great price. Several major United Kingdom department stores line the street, offering travelers access to stores like Marks & Spencer and Brown Thomas. Less than enthusiastic travel partners can pass the time watching street musicians and local area performers who come here to entertain the crowds.

Another popular area for shopping is Henry Street. Just like Grafton Street, this is a pedestrian only street so it’s easy to get around. Travelers can take a break from shopping by popping into one the numerous cafes where they can watch as the crowds go by.

Items For Sale

One of the most popular stores selling authentic Irish items is Carrolls. With 10 stores in the Dublin area, it’s easy to find one. The store carries items ranging from authentic Irish football  jerseys, to shamrock jewelry, to Guinness Luxury Fudge, so you are sure to find the perfect gift to bring home to relatives, or just as a reminder of the trip here.

Another idea for souvenirs are books. Dublin is home to many bookstores, and one of the oldest is Hodges Figgis, a store that has been in business for over two hundred years. Many bookstores can be found near the Trinity College area, making it an easy stop when touring the campus. There’s also a special outdoor Saturday book market for bargain book hunters.

Several other markets worth a visit include the Temple Bar Food Market, the St. George’s Arcade and the Cow’s Lane Market. These markets offer locally produced goods coming directly from the producer.
